CARE OF YOUR NEW TATTOO
It’s your total responsibility to take care of your tattoo!!!!
Since this type of art lasts a lifetime, you should be very concerned with the proper method of taking care of your tattoo. First, leave your bandage on for at least two hours, or, if you get your tattoo in the evening, it is OK to leave the bandage on overnight. Wash your hands thoroughly before removing the bandage: wash your tattoo with clean hands. Use a mild soap with warm water to remove any dried fluid or blood that remain on the tattooed area. Rinse well to take any remaining soap off, and pat area dry with clean, soft paper towel or cloth.
IMMEDIATELY BEGIN TO MOISTURIZE THE TATOOED AREA BY APPLYING EITHER VASELINE INTENSIVE CARE SKIN LOTION OR PALMER’S COCOA BUTTER.

Other lotions and skin creams have too many additives. After applying a generous amount, take another clean paper towel and remove excess lotion, leaving just enough to give a shine to the skin.

THIS PROCESS OF CLEANING AND APPLYING MOISTURIZER SHOULD TAKE PLACE A MINIMUM OF FOUR TIMES PER DAY.

Aim to repeat the process when you wake up, in the early afternoon, early evening, and before bed. When applying moisturizer at night, be sure to use enough to last through sleep. Checking your tattoo often for dryness is key… if your tattoo dries out, it may scab and cause color damage. Because a new tattoo will ‘stick’ to clothing, bedding, etc, you need to rebandage the area for first few days when it will be in contact with fabric and the like. Take every opportunity to let your tattoo air out when you are “out of the elements” and the risk of sticking to something is low. (Sitting around after dinner for example…)
DO NOT DO ANY OF THE FOLLOWING
  • Do not pick or scratch your tattoo. Your tattoo WILL begin to peel in 3-4 days. This is normal and is by no means a reason to worry. However, do NOT pick off the loose skin. Let it fall off naturally.
  • Do not submerge in water. (Yes, showering is OK, but try not to shower tattoo directly) Do not use hot tubs, swimming pools, Jacuzzis, or go in the ocean until your tattoo is completely healed.
  • Do not use a tanning bed or lay in the sun for at least two weeks. After your tattoo is healed it is important for you to use the highest number of sunscreen available when exposing your tattoo to the sun in order to protect the color of your tattoo.
THE CARE OF YOUR TATTOO IS YOUR SOLE RESPONSIBILITY AND ITS HEALING WILL DEPEND ON FOLLOWING THESE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY.
